 Longwood Gardens
Longwood Gardens is the living legacy of Pierre S. du Pont, whose passion was garden design, horticulture, education and the arts. Garden visitors topped one million in 2012 for the first time attesting to its growing popularity as a destination for garden aficionados and one of the main reasons people visit the Brandywine Valley. If you are coming to see and experience Longwood Gardens, why not take advantage of our special packages that include two tickets to Longwood Gardens and Brandywine River Museum, both of which are just a few minutes from the Brandywine River Hotel in the historic village of Chadds Ford. The gardens comprise over 1,077 acres of 20 outdoor gardens and displays like the one above, when over 100,000 tulips were in bloom. There are also 20 indoor gardens within 4.5 acres of heated greenhouses that make up Longwood's conservatory, one of the world's greatest greenhouse structures. The conservatory alone is home to 5,500 types of plants. An exploration of the 20 indoor gardens spanning a half mile takes about an hour and a half. All year long there are things to see and do at Longwood including the magnificient blooms in the spring, the Orchid show, fountain and fireworks during the summer and fall, music performances, the wine and jazz festival, and the list goes on.
